About
Introduction
I am Ugnius Igaris, a lecturer in theoretical physics at the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy, Vilnius University. Although I have attained a lecturer's position, I have not yet managed to secure a PhD position and aspire to do so in the near future. My primary interests are in foundational theoretical physics, especially gravity, cosmology and the quantum theory.
Background
Before getting my temporary positions at Vilnius University first as a researcher and then a lecturer, I had been studying in the UK. My first degree is an MSci in Physics and Philosophy from King's College London with first class honours. My second degree is an MSc in Mathematical Physics from the University of Edinburgh with Distinction.
Although I do not yet have published research papers, I have been working on various topics while writing my master's theses and later. My first thesis was written under the supervision of Dr. Ken Mimasu and Clerk Maxwell Professor of Theoretical Physics John Ellis CBE FRS. The thesis was on Beyond the Standard Model Physics. My second thesis was written under the supervision of Prof. Latham Boyle and the Higgs Chair of Theoretical Physics, Professor Neil Turok OC. It was on gauge-fixing conformal and quadratic models of gravity. Currently, I am working on the equivalence of the Jordan and Einstein frames in modified gravity theories with Dr. Mindaugas Karčiauskas and Dr. Adrián Casado-Turrión.
Research and Teaching
At Vilnius University, I teach and have taught problem classes in Introduction to Programming with Python, Statistical Physics, and Quantum Field Theory. For a semester, I also organised weekly General Relativity seminars and delivered blackboard lectures following Sean Carroll's Spacetime and Geometry.
Writing
Alongside physics, I write essays. This website collects those essays together with a brief record of my academic and professional work.
